       As a kind of water soluble polymer, sodium alginate can be easily dissolved in water, forming a viscous solution. In the textile industry, sodium alginate is an excellent raw material for preparation of warp sizing and dyeing pastes.          
       Especially in the printing and dyeing industry, sodium alginate has good washing, paste off rate is high, the film formed after printing on fabric has certain adhesion and flexibility. It does not react with dyes and other auxiliaries, the film formed after the film even after baking or high-temperature steam, it will be easily removed in the washing process, so that the fabric could feel soft.

       Sodium alginate is an ideal thickener in reactive dye printing, this is because the it can not react with reactive dyes. In the molecular structure of sodium alginate, -COONa is negatively charged in water, so sodium alginate is negative. Because the mother of the reactive dyes with carboxyl, sulfonic acid groups, they are ionized in the water and has a negative charge, so that the reactive dyes also have a negative charge. The electrostatic repulsion prevents the binding of reactive dyes with sodium alginate so it can promote the dye rate. While others such as paste, starch, synthetic tragacanth, printing paste should not be reactive, because their molecules contain a large number of hydroxyl groups, and  its easy to bond with active groups to make the color light and easy to be washed away.

        Disperse dyes are often used in synthetic fibre printing, and the fine printing effect can be obtained by using sodium alginate as thickening agent. According to the majority of synthetic fiber has the characteristics of hydrophobic absorption, less printing paste, we usually choose low viscosity sodium alginate, preparation of high solid content paste, the dye particles are uniformly dispersed in the paste thus improving the printing effect.

       Put the warm water into the bucket, add six sodium phosphate, pur the sodium alginate slowly into warm water u nder continuous stirring ,  fully stir until the granula  disappeared , add water to the total amount of soda and adjust the pH value to 7 ~ 8 and then add the  formaldehyde.
       Preparing paste without boiling, generally should not exceed 60 degrees, otherwise it will make the viscosity decrease, alginate paste would be hydrolyzed by the action of light, the viscosity decreased rapidly, so the storage must be placed in the darkness. It is  stable  in the pH value of 6 ~ 11,it can form the gel  in the acid and  alkali. Heavy metal ions can also cause the gel phenomenon but we can use six partial sodium phosphate to prevent it, the general concentration of the powder and sodium hypochlorite  has no effect on it in 20℃.
